Is one of your resolutions for 2015 to boost productivity on the job? As one of Southern New England’s leading employment agencies, Stewart Staffing knows it can certainly be a challenge. However, if you want to get more done and advance your career, then it’s a must. To help you improve your level of productivity, start by following these 5 tips:

Tip #1: Avoid unnecessary meetings.

Some meetings are necessary; however, if you have eight hours of them, back to back, then clearly you’re not going to get much done. If you want to be more productive, it’s important for you to discern which meetings you really need to be at and which ones you can avoid. In addition, you may want to designate certain days of the week for meetings and set those other days aside as time to get work done.

Tip #2: Create daily “to do” lists.

Each day, make a list of the tasks that you must get done. Prioritize them in order of importance and assign approximately how much time you plan to spend on each. When you have an especially large task, break it up into smaller components. You can also use technology, like Google Tasks, to help you manage your “to do” list.

Tip #3: Take breaks.

While it might seem like you get more done by working straight through, taking breaks actually boosts your productivity. Whether you take a quick walk or go get a cup of coffee, even just a few minutes of down time throughout the day here and there can help you feel rested, refreshed and reinvigorated.

Tip #4: Focus on your health.

If you’re not eating right or getting enough sleep, then it’s going to negatively impact your productivity. Make an effort to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Start exercising, opt for healthier meals options, go to bed early and drink plenty of water. Not only will you feel better and have more energy, but you’ll also improve your overall health and productivity.

Tip #5: Get help.

If you simply have too much on your plate, then ask for help by delegating. When you do, be sure to select someone that has the right expertise and skill set to perform the tasks you need assistance with. Then make sure you are clear about what you need done and when.

Between meetings and distractions, staying productive at work isn’t always easy. However, by following the tips above, you can add hours to your day and get more done.
